5 Places I Want To Visit

Following travel bloggers who go to my favorite places is the reason for the teardrops on my guitar. Or maybe it’s just because it’s 12:21AM and I need sleep but instead I am scrolling through my BlogLovin’ feed and staring at photo diaries of trips that were taken and smiles that were had and beverages that were consumed and now I just really want to explore a faraway city. Yeah it’s probably that. Anyways, here’s my travel wish-list right now:

1. Sydney, Australia: Okay, I know what you’re thinking.. “Sally, you need to go to new places, not to places that you lived in for ten weeks.” But I just miss it and one of the bloggers I follow just went to a restaurant at my favorite beach that my homestay mom’s friend owns and I AM OVERCOME WITH NOSTALGIA.

2. Anywhere-town, Italy – I just have this dream of going to Italy and taking Italian lessons finding a cute apartment and eating cream puffs and dragging my friend Cristina with me because she used to live in Rome. Maybe this is because I am reading Eat Pray Love right now and the author is currently in Italy or maybe it’s because I just like Italy a lot. Correction: I JUST LOVE ITALY A LOT.

3. Savannah, GA – This is one of those places that I will visit if I ever get around to visiting my sister in Atlanta. I’ve heard so much about it, and I would love to spend a weekend there!

4. Austin, TX – The last time I went to New York, I had a layover in Austin on the way home and I remember texting my sister ‘I’VE CHANGED MY MIND. I WANT TO MOVE TO TEXAS.’ followed by ‘How am I supposed to stay in shape if there is no SoulCycle in Texas?’ There was a live band and barbecue food in the layover area, so it was obviously meant to be. And the people were significantly nicer than any airport I had ever been before.

5. Cape Town, South Africa – I’ve heard so much about this city, but at the same time I know absolutely nothing about it, which is a sign that I definitely need to visit, right? Right. One of my best friends studied abroad here and she had the time of her life. Also, I’ve heard that the hikes are insane.

Oh, to book a flight and see the world……

Hi Sally! First off, you should be thankful you live in California. I am so jealous! I live in a cold little place called Suffolk, UK.
THEREFORE, in April I am jetting off with my family to Cape Town for two weeks :) I am half South African so it’s a very personal trip for us! We will be walking up Table Mountain, bungee jumping off the highest bridge, and great white shark diving!

THEN I will finally be living in Australia for a WHOLE year from July onwards. I also have family in Sydney so I will be living with them and doing a working holiday.
I just wanted to share this with you because I feel I could relate to your travel wishlist.

It took some time for me to decide I was going to Australia, and I encourage you to do the same. I’m 23, with no boyfriend, no proper career and I knew I had to do it now before I regret it.

When your’e soon to be surrounded by reality, a career, financial issues, children and marriage in your lifetime, you can’t exactly get on a plane and just leave.

If you wanna do it, then do it :) xxxxx

Hahaha it’s always weird for me to realize that California weather is actually abnormal compared to the rest of the world… But that being said, I freaking LOVE England and am ever-so-jealous that you get to call Suffolk home. I actually studied abroad in London and would move back in a heartbeat if the opportunity ever came up.

And secondly, OH MY GOSH! That’s so amazing that you’re doing that!! It takes a certain kind of person to just pack up all their stuff and move to another country. When I was in Sydney, I actually met so many people who were doing that work visa, and they were having the time of their lives. You are going to have SO much fun, and I’m secretly really jealous.

And I am with you 100% on the whole “see the world while you’re still young and still can” thing. I don’t know if I would do the work visa in Australia, but I am considering doing a grad school program abroad… Perhaps.

Seriously, thank you so much for telling me your story, it’s nice to hear that things like that are possible, and as somebody who is also 23 with no set career or boyfriend, it’s encouraging to hear that you have made that decision to move to Australia for a year. It’s definitely a big decision to make, and I definitely think you made the right one. Wish we could get coffee and discuss further!

And great white shark diving?!?? Oh my god. That’s going to be insane.
